WIA

WIA President Margaret Dean speaking at the WIA World Summit

WIA is shaping the future of animation. Since 1993, the organization has championed women and all genders in the industry, ensuring they have the opportunities and support to create and succeed. WIA envisions a world where talent, creativity and leadership are recognized and valued, both behind the scenes and on the screen.
Momentum is proud to partner with WIA as its members continue their vital work. As animation reaches audiences of all backgrounds, WIA is making sure the people creating these stories reflect the world around them. By opening doors and elevating voices, WIA is building an industry where everyone has a place to succeed. Learn more about how WIA makes an impact by checking out the 8th Annual WIA World Summit Recap or through its series, WIA Stories, featuring mentor Pramita Mukherjee.

Community

After some thousands of years, it’s become apparent that the concept of community works. Living, working, playing all together has its benefits — who knew? It has been fashionable at times in this country to pray at the altar of the individual, to exalt those who claim to make their own way. But humans are social animals, and whether you call it a pack, a village, a tribe or a social aid & pleasure club, social animals gather in community.

The benefits range far beyond associating with people of like mind or background. A community is a source of collective wisdom and a foundation of support. New ideas germinate in a community, and a community provides a built-in mechanism to test those ideas for weaknesses. Communities help individuals feel they belong, and build a sense of shared identity.

Merely by existing, a community helps create shared motivation and hope. Communities form naturally — sometimes by shared traits, by place of residence or even by allegiance to a sports team, which as Jerry Seinfeld once explained, is a bond based on laundry. Still, even a community centered on that can be a source of solace in dark times. (Let’s Go Mets.)
